It is used as a solvent for coatings, varnishes, shellac, ink, adhesives, etc. It is also a raw material for manufacturing pesticides, pharmaceuticals, plastics, synthetic fibers, and organic chemical products such as methylamine and formaldehyde. Other uses include automotive antifreeze, metal surface cleaning agents, and alcohol denaturants.
